The Benefits of Remote Access Solutions in Healthcare

The implementation of the Affordable Care Act has reshaped how Americans perceive, participate in and receive healthcare services. With a more comprehensive form of healthcare, multiple healthcare trends drive the need for secure remote access.

We, here at HOB, seek to convey the benefits of remote access solutions in healthcare and provide advice to IT teams. This starts with analyzing the development of the Affordable Care Act and demonstrating the necessity of remote access solutions to safely share patient records amongst healthcare providers, insurance organizations and the patient themself.

The healthcare trends that continuously drive the need for secure access include:

  • Implementation of Digital Solutions—More and more medical professionals are adopting digital solutions to keep track of health records. For example, in 2012 more than 69% of doctors utilized electronic health records, up from 46% in 2009.

  •  Healthcare for Rural America—More than 20% of Americans live in rural areas as well as tend to be older and collect lower incomes. The long distance Americans living in rural areas need to travel in order to seek medical attention caused them to delay seeking care and exacerbating health issues which in turn leads to more expensive treatment.

  • Point-of-Care Diagnosis—Rather than the current system of centralized diagnosis in large facilities, point-of-care diagnosis has the potential to dramatically increase effectiveness and efficiency of delivering healthcare services as it decreases customer travel time, wait times and delivery costs.

As secure remote access continues to play a vital role new healthcare landscape, it is important to work closely with a remote access provider in order to ensure secure data transport among doctors, providers and patients. There are multiple security features that remote access solutions must satisfy before a healthcare provider can implement it, including: disaster recovery plans, branch office connectivity and VoIP calling features.
